Stand Up and Rock With Jasper Carrott at St Davids Hall

LEGENDARY comedian Jasper Carrott comes to St David’s Hall with his hilarious new show Stand Up & Rock on Wednesday 8 May.

Jasper has been one of the best in the business for the last five decades, and now he’s back with a little help from his rock’n’roll friends including Bev Bevan – a founding member of The Move and ELO!

Joining them are Geoff Turton from Brummie beat group The Rockin’ Berries, singer Suzi Dian and more of Jasper’s showbiz pals.

Born Robert Norman Davies in 1945, he began his career in the mid-70s as resident compere at Birmingham’s Boggery Folk Club.  There he discovered his talent for comedy and his inability to sing – the rest is history! Nevertheless, he quickly became a hugely popular stalwart of the British folk club scene and his novelty single Funky Moped shot to No.5 in the UK charts in 1975. Overnight Jasper became a household name, and the vinyl’s flipside saw him take on the legendary Magic Roundabout, which is still sought after by record collectors today.

As well as his hugely successful stand-up career, Jasper has also established himself as a great comic actor – most notably as the lead co-star with Robert Powell on BBC series The Detectives throughout the 90s.

In recognition of his outstanding services to entertainment and charity, Jasper was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s 2003 Honours List and he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

Yet with typical restraint, Jasper says that his notable achievements are two gold albums, four silver discs, 1.5 million books…and two T-shirts!
