Elvis Show Will Be King Of All Classical Tributes
Cardiff’s St David’s Hall will be transformed into Memphis, Tennessee for one night only when Classic Elvis comes to town this Saturday.
Elvis and classical music fans will be in for the treat of their lives as two award-winning world class Elvis tributes join forces with the full 80-piece Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, the 30-voice Maesteg Gleeman Male Voice Choir and the Graceland Band to produce a stunning sound. Plus, for this special one-off performance CPO will be under the baton of acclaimed Conductor, John Quirk, who has composed the classical arrangements of Elvis’ biggest hits.
The organisers of the captivating concert are the team behind the massively popular Elvis Porthcawl Festival, which is the biggest festival of its kind in the world and attracts even bigger numbers annually than Memphis Week in Graceland!
As an extra incentive to come in early and enjoy a drink in St David Hall’s spacious bar and Gin Lounge, there’s a perfect free pre-concert performance on the piano from top Elvis tribute Juan Lozano in the L3 Lounge from 6.45pm.
2015 Porthcawl Best Elvis Winner, Michael Glaysher specialises in singing early Elvis songs and opens the main concert with an intimate, stripped back set of tracks made at Sun Studios accompanied by just a guitarist and slap bass player.
Then there’s a selection of Elvis’ memorable movie songs with some superb orchestrated string arrangements before the full Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra backs 2009 Porthcawl Best Elvis Winner, Gordon Davis performing a classic Elvis in Vegas set.
