CD Review: BA Robertson - Initial Success / Bully For You / R&BA

One of the big chart names of 1979 was Scottish singer BA Robertson whose melodic tongue in cheek hits Bang Bang, Cool in The Kaftan and To Be or Not To Be caught the imagination of the record buying public following numerous plays on radio airwaves and pop TV shows.

His first three albums, Initial Success, Bully for You and R&BA have now been reissued on CD complete with rarities, B sides and detailed sleeve notes along with exclusive interviews with BA himself.

As the albums display, Robertson had a knack of producing catchy feel good pop from a diverse range of inspiration be they the rock n roll vibes of The B Side or the church choir pop parody of England’s Green and Pheasant Land.

Several of the tracks featured on Initial Success were also recorded by Cliff Richard for his Rock N Roll Juvenile album, so it’s a bonus to hear the writers own renditions, which obviously provided a big inspiration for the Cliff versions.

No doubt these Robertson revivals will be snapped up by fans who owned the originals and deservedly discovered by 80s fans who could only afford a clutch of his singles at the time. They won’t be disappointed!
