Perfect Introduction To Opera With Family Themed Concert

Perfect Introduction To Opera With Family Themed Concert

Following last year’s sold-out performance, Welsh National Opera returns to St David’s Hall, Cardiff with a brand new animal-themed Family Concert on May 7 at 3pm.

The concert will be the perfect introduction to opera and classical music as the WNO Orchestra guides the audience through a selection of popular favourites from the world of opera, film and TV. The full force of the WNO Orchestra, conducted by James Southall will play themes from Pink Panther, Jurassic Park and Disney’s The Lion King as well as well-known classical pieces from Swan Lake, Die Fledermaus, The Magic Flute and more.

The afternoon concert will be hosted by BBC Radio Wales presenter and Welsh tenor Wynne Evans while soprano Samantha Hay has been confirmed as the soloist.

There will be an opportunity for some of the audience to get up close with the musicians and join the conductor at his podium for a unique conducting experience.

Audience members are encouraged to arrive from 1pm onwards to join in special family fun activities all designed to encourage music and opera lovers of the future.  These activities which will take place in the foyer area will include a treasure hunt, instrument zoo and a chance to join the team from WNO’s wig, costume and props departments who will share their behind-the-scenes magic on what goes into putting an operatic production on the stage.

This inclusive and relaxed show is the perfect way for families to spend a musical Sunday afternoon, for the young, the young at heart and everyone in between.
