Vant's Mattie Discusses New Album Dumb Blood

Following the release of Vant’s debut Dumb Blood, the London based quartet are out on a brief UK tour.

Fusing punk, grunge and garage rock, Vant’s accomplishments have covered sets at festivals including Glastonbury, Reading, Leeds and Bestival and live shows as far afield as Japan and Norway. Andy Howells recently put questions to Mattie from the band.

You're out on the road with a new album, do you enjoy the buzz of getting new material out there?
It’s always exciting to be out in the real world connecting with people directly and this is the first time we’ll have a full album of material to show people, we can’t wait to see the reaction!

Can you give us a bit of background onDumb Blood?
It is a record that addresses a lot of issues; Syria, environmentalism, sexual assault, inequality, racism, religion, social media isolation and the all-out self-destruction of mankind. It is a summary of where we are as a species in 2017 and the beginning of a discussion about where we need to go.

If you could pick an immediate go to track from the album which would best state where you are at as a band, which would it be and why?
Do You Know Me? It was one of the first songs I wrote for this album, it’s autobiographical, frustrated but hopeful. The bigger we get the more meaning and relevance it has.

Beyond the tour what else have Vant got planned for 2017?
Festivals, travelling the world and using our voices, loudly and clearly! We’ll be trying to make an impact outside of music as well, benefit shows, charity work, protests or if that all fails we’ll probably develop hard drug addictions.

What are you currently listening to?
Ty Segal by Ty Segal - it’s just come out and it’s sounds like across between Black Sabbath and The Kinks, it’s magnificent.
