CD Review: Vera Lynn - Her Greatest From Abbey Road (Parlophone)

CD Review: Vera Lynn - Her Greatest From Abbey Road (Parlophone)

Dame Vera Lynn reached her 100th birthday last week. The original forces sweetheart is of course remembered for her recordings that brought hope and comfort to many during the dark days of World War Two.

However, her career continued to flourish well into the following decades and this album cherry picks 23 recordings from her years at EMI’s Abbey Road studios between 1962 and 1974.

Several tracks are revisits to songs from her early career including We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs of Dover but Vera was still happy to embrace changing trends as the 1960s evolved as her versions of The Beatles Goodnight and Pete Seeger’s Where Have All The Flowers Gone? display.

A timely reminder of a celebrated artist.
