“For those of us who know the Welsh music scene well, we know it’s just bursting with talent,” says Dydd Miwsig Cymru’s ambassador and Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, “The purpose of Dydd Miswig Cymru 2017 is to highlight this talent and bring it to new audiences everywhere – giving it a chance to really shine. There’s so much great Welsh language music out there and it would be a shame if it wasn’t recognised and celebrated more widely. “

Many Welsh artists are releasing new records and music as part of Dydd Miwsig Cymru, among them Adwaith, Griff Lynch, Omaloma, Bendith, Gentle Good, Rhodri Brooks and Hyll.
There will also be a chance for music fans to discover and share music on social media via a series of specially created playlists from Huw and Welsh recording artist, Gwenno among others via apps such as Spotify, Deezer, AppleMusic and Apton. To locate the playlists users can search using ‘Dydd Miwsig Cymru’.

“Some young people today might think that the Welsh language is irrelevant to them, and it can be boring” continues Huw, “But I think that, if they tapped into the Welsh language music scene and discovered some of the talented artists making music they weren’t expecting to be made here in Wales – the electronic artists, the singer songwriters, the bands, they might change their minds. There’s something relevant and exciting in there for everyone.”
