Spiro To Launch 2017 Roots Unearthed Season

St David’s Hall’s Roots Unearthed season returns on January 17 with a gig from instrumental folk quartet Spiro in the L3 Lounge.

Signed to Real World Records by the legendary Peter Gabriel, Spiro create amix of fiddle, accordion, mandolin and guitar amid a unique locked-in ensemble sound they refer to as the “mesh” .

“Even though we use folk tunes, they’re raw materials that the rest of the sound is built around.” Says Jon Hunt of the band, “ There’s no ornamentation to attract attention to one particular instrument. In fact, there’s that feeling that each member of the band isn’t just playing that instrument, they’re playing the whole thing.’
