Bristol Hippodrome Alive With The Sound of Music

Bristol Hippodrome Alive With The Sound of Music

Bill Kenwright’s production of The Sound of Music will take to the stage of the Bristol Hippodrome from August 30 until September 3.

BBC1’s The Voice runner-up and award-nominated Lucy O’Byrne continues in the role of Maria while star of stage and screen Andrew Lancel joins the company as Captain Von Trapp and Jan Hartley reprises her role as Mother Abbess.

Produced by Bill Kenwright, directed by Martin Connor, choreographed by Olivier Award winner Bill Deamer with musical direction by David Steadman, The Sound of Music tells the true story of the world-famous singing Trapp Family Singers, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of WWII.

The musical created by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse was inspired by Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography and went on to worldwide acclaim on both stage and screen.

The score features many memorable songs such as Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, So Long, Farewell and of course, the title song, The Sound of Music
