NEWiD For Allan Yn Y Fan On Sixth Album
Welsh folk band Allan Yn Y Fan will release their new album entitled NEWiD on September 16 through Steam Pie Records.
Newid is the Welsh word for change, whilst in English the title could be represented as new identity, apt for an album reflecting the band’s new six piece line-up and, coincidentally Allan Yn Y Fan’s sixth album.
The theme of change was ever present for Allan Yn Y Fan as they recorded their new album at the home studio of the band’s new fiddler Alan Cooper. The recordings for NEWiD took place over the winter and spring whilst the band’s new lead singer, Catrin O’Neill, gave birth to her son while their flautist moved house. Out of the productivity and personnel changes, NEWiD demonstrates a new, refined and mature sound for the band featuring original compositions and further arrangements of Welsh traditional music and song.
Tracks include Kate Strudwick’s Tune for Lilian commemorating a surprise bequest; Chris Jones’ Bishop of Llandaff’s and Frank Hennessy’s Kairdiff Quicksteps and some terrific traditional tunes including Dŵr Glan , Pibddawns Y Mwnci and Sbaen Wenddydd.
Allan Yn Y Fan are performing at National Eisteddfod Monmouthshire at Abergavenny on July 31 at 3.00 p.m. and will be touring further in support of NEWiD from late August.
The band are also currently crowdfunding to raise money to effectively market and promote NEWiD. Visit www.crowdfunder.co.uk/ayyf-newid/ for further details.
