Big Screen Ballet At Chepstow

Big Screen Ballet At Chepstow

There’s another opportunity this year and next to enjoy a season of ballets from one of the world’s greatest companies, the Bolshoi in Moscow, broadcast live and brought to the big screen at the Drill Hall, Chepstow.

These screenings on a Sunday afternoon, are at an ideal time for young ballet fans to join the audience of ballet lovers of all ages, This season’s programme features some of the most famous timeless classics, and some contemporary works, performed by their greatest dancers, with the astounding skill, daring and bravura which leave audiences the world over spellbound.

Launching the 2016-17 season on Sunday October 16 at 4pm is The Golden Age, a ballet unique to the Bolshoi that will be new and unknown to most British ballet goers, but is set in a popular period with music and dance and costumes with wide appeal.

The Golden Age is a glorious satire of Europe in the Roaring 20s and is a dazzling, colourful show with jazzy score and music hall atmosphere. Set in a seaside town where business, and the Mafia are flourishing, The Golden Age is actually a cabaret, the favourite nightly haunt of bandits, young revellers and dancers. It’s where Boris falls in love with Rita a beautiful dancer, but also the friend of a local gangster…

With its passionate love story featuring beautiful duets between Boris and Rita, the Bolshoi dancers plunge magnificently into every stylised step and gesture.
